Its low, wide shape is finished in a black kiln-fired yōhen (黒窯変) effect with a radiating kikume (菊目), or chrysanthemum-eye, pattern.

The flat-bodied design gives loose-leaf tea room to unfurl in a shallow layer, even with a small amount of hot water. A built-in ceramic mesh filter, known as ceramesh (セラメッシュ), helps separate tea leaves from the pour. The 200 mL (approximately 6.8 US fl oz) size is suited to mindful servings of Japanese green tea, including sencha.

Product Details

Capacity: 200 mL / 6.8 US fl oz

Dimensions: Approx. 16 × 13 × 5 cm (6.3 × 5.1 × 2.0 in), handle × spout × height

Filter: Built-in ceramic mesh (セラメッシュ / ceramesh)

Material: Tokoname ceramic pottery (常滑焼)

Finish: Black yōhen (黒窯変) with radiating kikume (菊目) texture

Origin: Made in Japan · Sekiryū Kiln (石龍陶苑)

About the Kiln

Sekiryū Tōen is a Tokoname pottery studio with three generations of craftsmanship.
