Junzo Maekawa (前川 淳蔵): Tokoname Tea-Ware Maker

Junzo Maekawa is a Tokoname ceramic maker associated with the family pottery business Maekawa Pottery (前川製陶所). A publication from Tokoname Tōnomori records that he studied ceramics in Kyoto and Seto before returning to Tokoname to continue his family's pottery practice.

Continuing a Family Workshop

Maekawa’s training across different ceramic centers informs his approach to kyusu and other pottery. The Tōnomori publication describes him as actively making teapots while developing several other pottery forms and firing approaches. It also records an award at the 61st Tokoname-yaki exhibition.

Tokoname Craft Heritage

Tokoname’s longstanding tea-ware tradition values the relationship between vessel proportions, ease of pouring, clay, and firing. Maekawa's work participates in that regional tradition through a family-operated workshop and wider ceramic training. Great Zakka includes a tea set explicitly attributed to Junzo Maekawa.
