This handcrafted wooden chasaji (tea scoop) by Yatsuyanagi is shaped like a gourd and adorned with a delicate cherry blossom design. Made in Kakunodate, Akita Prefecture, it uses the traditional Kabazaiku technique, where wild cherry bark is hand-scraped, polished, and carefully applied to a wooden core.
The Kabazaiku technique, unique to Akita, has been practiced since the 1700s and is valued for its natural beauty and craftsmanship. The uncoated cherry bark absorbs moisture, making it ideal for tea storage. To clean, simply wipe with a dry cloth and avoid water exposure.
This tea scoop is a perfect blend of practicality and artistry, ideal for tea lovers and collectors of traditional Japanese crafts.
