Yakushigama's beckoning cats are the best-selling items made using the Seto novelty technique, which has been passed down in Seto City since the Meiji era. Unlike traditional maneki-neko, these beckoning cats feature inscriptions such as "blessings and good luck," "good luck with money," "fulfillment of wishes," and "good health," making them unique and meaningful gifts for loved ones or a special treat for oneself.
Yakushigama is a product brand of Chugai Touen, a pottery workshop located in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, a city with a rich history of pottery-making dating back over 1,000 years. The Yakushi kiln was named after the Yakushi Nyorai shrine located in the area where it was founded.
Traditionally, the right hand of a beckoning cat is said to invite wealth, the left hand invites people, and both hands invite both. In addition, many people also consider the beckoning cat to bring "healthy longevity" with the blessing of Yakushi Nyorai.
All of Yakushigama's beckoning cats are handmade by skilled craftsmen under the supervision of the beckoning cat museum, ensuring the utmost quality and authenticity.
Please note that due to the handmade nature of these products, there may be slight variations in color and appearance, which only adds to their unique charm and appeal.
