Tokuta Fujita | Tokoname Potter

Tokuta Fujita (藤田 徳太)

Originally from Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture, Tokuta Fujita is a contemporary Tokoname ceramic artist known for his thoughtful approach to wheel-thrown vessels and Japanese tea ware. He completed his studies at the Tokoname Municipal Ceramic Art Institute in 1997 and subsequently trained under ceramic artist Toshio Araki.

From Apprentice to Teacher

Fujita's work has been selected for the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition, the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Chōza Tokoname Ceramics Exhibition. He has presented solo exhibitions across Japan and now shares his expertise as an instructor of foundational wheel-throwing at Tokoname Tōnomori.

Artistic Practice

His teapots and everyday ceramics balance refined silhouettes with the tactile character of clay. Working within Tokoname's celebrated pottery tradition, Fujita places equal attention on the experience of holding and using a vessel and on its sculptural presence.
