This porcelain art vase by Hiroshi Shibata (柴田博) of Hakuhou Kiln (博峰窯) showcases the luminous, layered color associated with the yusai (釉彩) glazing technique. Flowing shades of blue create depth and movement across the sculptural surface, making the piece especially striking when displayed on its own.
Born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1950, Shibata studied under Takeshi Yamachika and Fujio Kitade. His career includes fourteen consecutive selections following his debut at the 21st Nitten Exhibition, numerous Kutani ware awards, and works acquired by the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art and Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Subtle variations in color and surface are characteristic of individually crafted ceramic works.
