Discover the ethereal beauty created by the overlapping colors of Kutani ware. Crafted at the renowned Hakuhou Kiln, this vase features the yusai (glazed color) technique, which uses high-temperature firing to produce a stunning glass-like transparency and vibrant, flowing hues.

Although called a vase, it is designed more as an artistic interior piece than for holding flowers, embodying the elegance of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Hiroshi Shibata (柴田 博)
A distinguished artist from Hakuhou Kiln, Hiroshi Shibata was born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1950 (Showa 25). His journey in ceramics is marked by mentorship under renowned masters, including the former president of the Creative Art Association, Takeshi Yamachika, and the esteemed Fujio Kitade, a Japan Art Exhibition (Nitten) council member and former president of Kanazawa College of Art.

Notable Achievements:
• Selected for the 11th Japan New Craft Exhibition.
• Twice acquired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
• Made his debut in the 21st Nitten Exhibition, followed by 14 consecutive selections.
• Received the Excellence Award at the 13th Traditional Kutani Ware Craft Exhibition, with his work permanently preserved in the Kutani Ware Museum.
• Honored with one Grand Prize, six Excellence Awards, one Encouragement Award, and two Technical Awards.
• Three pieces permanently preserved in the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art.

Professional Roles:
• Served as a juror for the Japan New Craft Artists Association.
• Active member of the Nitten Exhibition as a “Kaiyu” (Friend of Nitten).
• Part-time lecturer at Kanazawa Gakuin University.

Current Work:
Hiroshi Shibata continues to create stunning ceramic pieces at his studio in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture, embodying the rich traditions and innovative artistry of Kutani Ware.
