Handcrafted by Yatsuyanagi, this elegant rectangular tray showcases exquisite cherry bark craftsmanship from Akita Prefecture. Yatsuyanagi, established in 1876, is a renowned manufacturer known for its dedication to preserving traditional techniques and sustainable practices. Based in Kakunodate, Senboku City, Akita Prefecture, Yatsuyanagi combines high technology with generations of expertise to create beautiful and practical daily-use tools.
The tray is adorned with a cherry blossom motif in shell-inlay and wood bark, featuring a glossy brown cherry bark with a rich, moist texture and captivating shine. The cherry bark used in this tray comes from wild cherry trees in the Tohoku region, prized for their resilience and beauty due to the harsh climate. The bark is meticulously peeled from the trunk and dried in the shade for one to two years to ensure its durability.
Designed for serving tea or drinks to 2-4 people, the tray includes a rough-coated back to prevent slipping.
