Seiji Ito(伊藤成二), born in 1949 in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, is a master potter renowned for his "kyusu" teapots. For 50 years, he has crafted these exceptional teapots in Tokoname, a region famous for its high-quality clay.
Ito first started working in his father's pottery business. For two decades, he assisted in producing vases and teacups but always aspired to create teapots, the "stars of the show."
Ito sought guidance from various renowned Tokoname teapot artisans, learning the intricate art of balancing a teapot's many parts. “If you understand that, you can make good teapots,” he says. His dedication and skill have earned him international recognition, including a silver prize at the 1st World Ceramic Teapot Competition in Yixing, China.
Recently, Ito has shifted his focus from purely functional teapots to creating pieces that enthusiasts will truly love. His passion for teapots and his desire to inspire future artists define his exceptional career in ceramics. Please note as each piece is handmade, slight variation in shape and glazing may occur.
