Yakushigama is a product brand of Chugai Touen, a pottery workshop located in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, a city with a rich history of pottery-making dating back over 1,000 years. The Yakushi kiln was named after the Yakushi Nyorai shrine located in the area where it was founded.

Traditionally, the right hand of a beckoning cat is said to symbolize a welcoming gesture, the left hand invites people, and both hands represent a warm and hospitable embrace. In addition, many people also consider the beckoning cat to represent "healthy longevity" linked to local cultural traditions.

All of Yakushigama's beckoning cats are handmade by skilled craftsmen under the supervision of the Beckoning Cat Museum, ensuring the utmost quality and authenticity.
